Forensic Valuation of Deceased’s Estate

A probate dispute

Two companies – one a furniture manufacturer, the other a mixed farm – were part of a deceased’s estate that was valued for probate purposes. Three years later, the beneficiaries were still in dispute, and the matter was heading to Mediation.

At short notice, property valuation reports were obtained and we were commissioned, to prepare a valuation report for both companies and the deceased’s shareholdings in them.

Our valuation report gave the parties the alternative pro rata and discounted shareholding values they had requested, and the figures were used in the mediation. A settlement was reached.
