Provision of expert witness services

Case 1

Our Pensions Advisory specialist was instructed by the Financial Reporting Council to act as expert in respect of the Silentnight matter. Their role included providing an expert view on whether Silentnight was insolvent at certain dates, and on the steps a reasonable insolvency practitioner or reporting accountant would have taken prior to any formal insolvency appointment, particularly in relation to the defined benefit pension scheme.

Case 2

Our Pensions Advisory specialist was instructed by a law firm to act as an expert in the case of Merchant Navy Ratings Pension Fund v Stena Line Ltd (and others). The case centred on how the fund’s £272m deficit should be apportioned between the 240 participating employers of seamen employed in the British Merchant Navy.
